wow, talk about let down...=(

all they did was go over tips you could find on google, and song structure.

i was bored to tears but heres most of it

☆be quick with the chorus or you'll bore us

^ the ppl teaching said the bulk of the song should b chorus so you should get to it fast. no tool type stuff were u maybe play a chorus once at the end of a 7 min song

☆no long intros/outros

^no long instrumental breaks, especially if ur playing for record exec.'s or talent scouts. they wanna hear a song thats catchy and will take little to no work to make it playable on radio

☆make the chorus simple and catchy

^ the chorus should b as straight forward and catchy as possible. the thing that stands out the most should b the lyrics, so they said dial it back if like the drum beat or the bass/guitar melody is like really complex and attention grabbing

☆the vocal melody shouldn't mimic the bass, drums, piano or guitar

melody, they really stressed this, it should be different than what any1 else is doing but still harmonize well.

thats all they said. i'm let down, they billed the class as songwriting and lyrics but it was just that stuff.

Well, I have some tips

• Write About your Feelings

Writing about your feelings is one of the best ways to make a song, it comes from the heart. Since you can relate to it, you can easily write it.

•Write Songs Everyday

They don't have to all be the ones that you will keep. But it stretches your brain and leaves you with ideas to come back to.

Also, try to keep a notebook close by. You never know, you might get an idea in the middle of the night. (lol i can relatet to that)

dont worry about rhyming unless it comes to you naturally. i am a horrible rhymist, so i just go free verse. then try mixing it up afterwards.

The advice Jim got was appalling.

If you wanna be like Fall Out Boy that's what you follow, but it doesn't work like that for everything.
